SEA BOX Assembles New Deployable Air Traffic Control Facility (DATCF)

May 06 2015

SEA BOX has assembled the DATCF at our headquarters in East Riverton, NJ. This containerized structure will function as a temporary, relocatable air traffic control tower that can be used at airports anywhere in the country while the main towers undergo renovations or repairs. The DATCF could also be used as a temporary air traffic control site in the event of an emergency.

This containerized shelter comprised of 16 custom modified ISO containers in a 30' x 28' footprint. When assembled, the structure stands nearly 50’ high. The use of shipping container gives the structure the inherent advantage of being able to be transported worldwide using existing civilian and military transportation systems and handling equipment. This tower is just one of many innovative containerized shelters designed and manufactured by SEA BOX.

In June of 2015, Sea Box was part of the design team recognized with a Jurors' Special Citation in Institutional Architecture from the Northern Virginia Chapter of The American Institute of Architects for this project.
